What Makes a Good Webpage? What do we want to avoid?
These are the questions we need to ask before we start building our own website, we need to know what to include and what not to do before we jump in with both feet! As a class we are going to brainstorm on what we like and what we do not like about webpages that we have visited before. After this process we are going to create as a class a list of items that we are going to aim for before creating our own webpages!
|
Webpage Host
There are many webpage hosts out there that are both free and cost money to operate, we are going to evaluate these sites looking for features and comparing these host sites to make an informed decision on which site we are going to select to host our site for the remainder of the course. Download the file here to compare three potential host sites. You can use some of the sites listed below or choose one of your own through research.
Building Our Websites!
Using the information you found in the previous activity you are going to select a website to host your own personal website that you will develop as an online portfolio for this course as well as design an webpage that represents your business.
You will create a website and create a home page that represents you as a person! Make sure to remove any default information from the website so there is no information that is not yours.
Create a subpage and name it "ePortfolio", this is where we are going to store a copy of all of our work for our classmates to view.
Create another subpage with the name of your business (Music Store or Book Store)
Once that is all set up make sure to send an email to the class with a link to your public site! You will also be able to find a collection of links below to your classmates websites when they become available.

After watching the video on copyright consider the following questions and record your answers in a word document;
If you are getting an image off of google there is a good chance that it is protected by copyright. You will need to find a website that gives its user to use their images how ever you want. A good one that I use is unsplash.

Trademark
Trademarks are not the same as copyright but have similar limitations. Understanding a trademark can be confusing. Watch the video and explore the guide on the government of Canada's website
Let us now think of our business we are creating! As this is our business we want to make sure the business name is not used else where. Perform a google search and see if the business name you have selected already exists. If it does, do you want to change your business name? (record your response in the word document)

Domain
|
We all have (or Should have) created a domain name for our sites. If you are using weebly your domain probably ends in .weebly.com, this is because you have created a subdomain within the Weebly host site.
Using Domain.com you will be searching up the cost of different domains for your website. Take the website name you selected, put it into the domain name finder and record the price per year and the extension or modified domain name that it is giving you. Make sure to record your responses in your word document

Please submit your file to the teacher for evaluation and ensure it is saved in your one drive folder to access and reference at a later date.
